The History
1975 – Division of Communications created
1995 – First Study of Interoperability
1999 – Task Force created and results given
to Governor
2001 – RFP prepared and released – not
signed
2004 – HS Grant funding begins for regional
networks

2006 – First regional network activated.
Government Technology magazine – October 2009.
Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman states “We started
out by setting up regional networks with the ultimate
idea that we would connect the regional networks and
have a statewide system.” “We brought them all
together. We outlined our goals.” “We’ll take our
homeland security money that is coming from the
federal government and put in a statewide
interoperable communications system.” “Here is the
other key: We had a very successful regional
project….twenty five counties got together…… a lot of
barriers dropped by the wayside”.

2008 – RFP released and contract awarded to
Motorola
2009 – Create Governance Councils
2009/2010 – Statewide system built
