Relief printmaking: the artist cuts away
parts of the surface of a plate. The part that
is not cut away will stand out in relief.

surface of the plate with a brayer and ink can
be forced onto the paper with a burnisher.

Remember, words
need to be carved
backwards so they
come out right!
Our Project
• Using a small piece of linoleum, carve out
a design that represents you. We will call
this your “logo.” It could be as simple as
your initials or complex as you want it to
be.
• Start by drawing the design in pencil
• Carve away everything around the
drawing
• Ink your design with a brayer
• Press the linoleum onto the paper
• Peel away and you’ve made a copy!
