Community health education and volunteer leader training program offered through the Mississippi State University Extension Service Objectives of the Program • Provide accurate health promotion information • Develop community programs related to health promotion • Support youth health programs • Develop leadership skills among volunteers The Master Health Education Program is NOT… • A club • A training ground for health professionals Who are Master Health Education Volunteers? A diverse group of trained volunteers committed to sharing their passion for health promotion with each other and the community. Who can be a Master Health Education Volunteer? • YOU CAN BE! – No previous experience or training is necessary – The majority of applicants do not have health education experience Master Health Education Volunteers DO need: • A willingness to learn and share their knowledge with others • A personal commitment to volunteerism Are there program benefits? • Personal satisfaction • Interaction with others • Opportunities for recognition • Connection to the community • Master Health Educator’s Newsletter What other benefits? • Develop skills – Presentation skills – Computer skills – Technical skills – Collaboration skills – Leadership skills Training • Participants complete 40 hours of instruction on health and related topics Training Manual • Handouts from all presentations • MSU-ES publications and resource material • Continuous updates • Reference manual for volunteer service. Asthma and Alzheimer’s Community Service To become a certified Master Health Educator, the trainee must complete 40 hours of approved volunteer service within one year of training.
