The Gifted and Talented
Children's Association of
South Australia is a group
of people concerned about
excellence in all aspects of
children's development.
Families, educators,
psychologists and other
committed people are
members.

OUR AIMS







To offer support to parents and caregivers of gifted children,
including gifted and learning disabled children.
To assist parents and caregivers in the provision of
supplementary educational experiences for gifted children.
To liaise with educational authorities on the needs of gifted
students in the schools.
To support professional development of teachers where
requested.
To raise public awareness of the needs of gifted children and
ways of fostering their development.
To provide opportunities for gifted children to meet regularly
with one another to foster their intellectual, social and emotional
development.
To have resources for students studying education/psychology
for the gifted.
What does GTCASA do?
We provide:

Annual Youth Workshops for years 8-10

Saturday student programs and discussion
groups for parents

A newsletter with articles of interest to
parents, caregivers and educators.

A collection of resources aimed for parents
and teachers of gifted and talented children.

Seminars, workshops, conferences for
teachers and parents.

Liaison with State, National and International
Gifted and Talented Children's Associations.

Participants will be able to select from a series of workshops of their choice

Some of us in action!
Youth Workshops
Youth Workshops are for gifted students in Years 8, 9 and 10. All
South Australian secondary schools are invited to nominate
students for these courses which are in the April school
holidays.
Continuum students are automatically eligible.
Saturday Club in the Bush
Saturday May 31st & Sunday June 1st
Pt. Augusta
3 sessions for primary aged gifted children from
Saturday am until lunchtime Sunday.
Maximum of 15 in each group
Workshops will also be run for parents and/or
teachers.
This is a special event open to all gifted children and
their parents/teachers in SA.
Costs will be minimal, between $7 and $10 for each
session, with family discount if parents and/or
teachers participate in the workshops.
We are going to the Monarto Zoo
28th June our Saturday club will be a day trip to
Monarto Zoo.
10.30am – 4.30pm
We will have the expertise of one of the zoos
education officers to take one group at a time for
exciting activities. The other group will do our own
self guided activities and walks at the same time.
After lunch the groups will swap over.

Who is eligible to be a member?
The children do not have to have had a
psychologists’ IQ report to be eligible.
They simply have to provide proof that they are two
or more years ahead of their age peers in at least
one subject.
Nominations from teachers and parents is also part
of the process used to determine a child's eligibility.
