What is ST Math and how
does MPS utilize it?
“Spatial Temporal (ST) Math® is the leader in visual math instruction and
represents the highest quality and most effective blended learning math solution
in K-12 learning. The ST Math software games use interactive, graphically-rich
animations that represent mathematical concepts to improve conceptual
understanding and problem solving skills.” (http://www.mindresearch.org/programs/)
Where we are in implementation…

Barry – Year 2
Sherman – Year 1
Primary Grades
30 minutes 4 days per week
Intermediate Grades

Help JiJi get through the tunnel…
Signing into ST Math requires students to memorize a
13 picture password. Each time a picture is placed into the
sequence, new pictures are given….Yes, they can do it!
Meriden Public Schools
The object of every game in ST Math is to get JiJi
from one side of the screen to the other side.
In this example, JiJi started
with 6 blue blocks. When JiJi
makes it across the screen,
there can only be 4 blue blocks.
Along the way JiJi will lose
3 blocks, then 1 block.
Students will have to
determine how many pink
blocks to add or subtract for
JiJi to be successful.

Usage Highlights
 Highly Engaging – Students request to use the program during the
regular school day. No requests for “free time”.
 Multiple grade levels allow teachers to setup successful entry
points to learning for every student.
 Progress monitoring helps in identifying strengths and weaknesses.
 Students using ST Math at home opens up opportunities for parents
to connect to their child’s learning.
 Students helping students - across grade levels & learners

Moving forward…
Use current year student data to place students appropriately at their
level next year at the onset of the school year.
Bridge the blended learning experience of ST Math and the classroom
with the CC Content Standards and Standards of Mathematical Practice:
Perseverance, Precision, Modeling, and Tools
Reward benchmarks at different levels
for primary and intermediate grades.
