Problem Definition
• Specific: We want the campus community to use
crosswalks on Dan Allen
• Measurable: Improved orderly flow of pedestrian and
vehicle traffic
• Agreed Upon: In order for this to be implemented, the
project must be approved by University Administration
• Realistic: Based on standards set at other UNC System
schools – yes
• Time Bound: Up to 6 years dependent upon receiving
capital improvement funding
Purpose Statement
• We want campus community to use
crosswalks on Dan Allen in order to
improve orderly flow of pedestrian and
vehicle traffic.

• No crosswalk where
there are curb cuts –
at the Hodges
intersection.
• Crosswalks not
clearly defined at
Sullivan intersection.
Proposed Solutions – Focus Area 1
• Add painted
crosswalks and road
signs at the curb cuts
already in place.

•Sullivan Drive to Yarborough Drive

• Crosswalk at Bragaw
Hall is not clearly
marked with road
paint.
• Jaywalking and
heavy traffic
congestion at Cates
intersection.

• Add visibility to
existing crosswalk with
signs and paint.
• Enforce using existing
crosswalks with police
issued warning and
tickets.
• Add 3-way stop at
Cates Avenue
intersection.
