literacy, and informational literacy
• 24/7 learning allows students to personalize
how much and how long they want to learn

Device Care
• Most of the Netbooks are made with plastic and
they are fragile
• The devices should never be tossed while in a
backpack
• It is the students responsibility to keep track of
their device
• During PE, netbooks should be locked in their PE
locker
• Be sure there is nothing laying on the keyboard
when closing the device.
• Liquids should never be near the device
• Do not store the device in hot areas such as in the
car, by an oven, or heater
Insurance Protection
• Student Insurance Partners is an independent
company outside of RUSD
• All claims go through Student Insurance
Partners
• The cost of each netbook device is $325 - $400
• The cost of an iPad is roughly $450
• Remember the cost of 4 books can exceed
$400
• If a device is broken, your student will be able
to use loaner computers in their core
classrooms until the unit is repaired
• Insurance can be purchased online or with the
form we have provided you

Setting Up a Gmail
Account
If you don’t already have an email
account, Gmail is the perfect mail
client. Here is how to set up a free
account that you can access from any
computer.
• Open your web browser by clicking on the icon
shown:
• In your browser’s web address bar, type in the URL
gmail.com and hit the [Enter] key.
• Click the link
titled [Create an
Account].
Creating a Gmail (Google e-mail) Account
• After typing your first and last names in the appropriate text
boxes, Google Mail will ask you to type in your [Desired Login
Name].
• This login name will be your email address:
[email protected]
• When creating a password, notice the bar next to the text box.
• As you type your new password, the bar will change color and
level to indicate the strength of your password.
• The stronger your password, the more difficult it is for other
people to guess it.

Practice Sending an e-mail
Lets practice sending an email:
• Click on “Compose”
• Where is says “To” type [email protected]
(This is our school Technology Support person)
• Click the white area next to “Subject” and type
“email Practice”.
• Next click in the big white area and type an email
with your students name(s) and ID Number.
• When you are done at the top in Red click “Send”
• You have now sent an email.

• Online grade book
• Assignments
• RED means not turned in
• Updated Reagularly
• Review all areas, report on one finding.

Three things you will need before you start:
(This information can be found on the paper that was given to you prior to the workshop)
1.Your personal Email Account
2.Student ID number
3.The Telephone Number Listed in Aeries
4.Verification Code – a random code containing numbers and uppercase letters
To create your account:
•Open your web browser and go to
https://aeriesweb.rusd.k12.ca.us/parent
•Click the “Create New Account” link
in the bottom left corner of the screen.
•
In Step 1, Choose the “Parent” Option
•
In Step 2, Enter your email address
and password in provided fields.
•
In Step 3, you must confirm the email
address. When you see the screen
below an email has been sent you.
Do not click on the Previous or Next button
Close this window and open your email
You will see an email similar to the one below. Click on the Confirm
Current Email Address link.
You will see a window like the one below. Click on the “Click Here”.
In Step 4, Enter the information in each box
and when done click the Next button.
NOTE: The registration process will need to
be restarted if you exit out of the sign up
process.
Step 5, Click the button next to your name
or “None of the above” if you do not
appear in the list. Click the Next button to
finish.
Step 6, By clicking on the Click Here link
you will be able to log
into the system immediately.
Student Dashboard
To open the dashboard, go to
https://adtools.rusd.k12.ca.us/dashboard/
Username: STU + ID Number

•Current year courses and teachers
•Full teacher grade book data for each class including missing
assignments
•Attendance data – summary and detail
•Grade point average and historical grade information
•CAHSEE and CST scores

How to get to Haiku:

pics or videos) in emails or on Facebook.
Don’t open any attachment or click on links unless you
know who it’s from and you were expecting it
Delete emails immediately from someone you do not
know
If you send an email attachment to someone, let them
know that it’s coming (some viruses replicate
through names in your address book)
