Who are we?
RedR is an international disaster relief charity
that provides high-quality training for relief
workers, recruitment of humanitarian
professionals and support services to NGOs.

A brief history of RedR
1979, Engineer Peter Guthrie seconded to Oxfam to work in a
Malaysian Refugee camp for Vietnamese boat people
On return to UK, Oxfam had difficulty in replacing him so
Peter came up with idea of a Register of Engineers
Peter remains a Vice President of RedR and is the UK’s
Prof of Sustainable Engineering at Cambridge University
International Health Exchange (IHE) formed in 1982, aim
of improving preparation and recruitment of health
professionals for overseas emergencies
The organisations merged in 2003
Now RedR supports aid agencies and aid workers of all
disciplines
History of RedR Canada
 RedR Canada was founded in August 2001 by:
• Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada
• Canadian Council of Professional Engineers (now
called Engineers Canada)
• Engineering Institute of Canada, and
• Canadian Academy of Engineering
RedR Canada’s Board

A charity governed by a US and Canadian
board composed of representatives of :

Revitalizing the RedR Canada
Register – A Special Project

RedR Canada’s register requires modernizing and
is a special project worth supporting

RedR Canada’s register needs conversion to an
online format to permit:
•
rapid population and updating of pre-screened qualified
staff, ready to assist Canadian and international aid
efforts, both in times of crisis and relative calm; and
•
development of RedR Canada’s accreditation plans to
promote quality and the creation of a trust-mark based on
recognition of qualifications, experience and ongoing
participation in RedR Canada’s range of courses
