most in my life?”
Leadership Defined.
What’s Your Definition
of Leadership?
The definition of leadership is as
individualized as leaders
themselves!
5 FUNCTION OF LEADERS…
• Leaders focus the attention of a group on a
purpose. “Why do we get up in the
morning?” “What is our mission?”
• Leaders keep one eye on the horizon and
one eye on the sidewalk in front of them.
They help the group internalize the detailed
vision.
• Leaders organize work around results that
will make the vision a reality. This means
moving from talk to action.
5 FUNCTION OF LEADERS…
• Leaders define a clear, unwavering
set of values/guiding principles
that support the vision and promotes
individual accountability. This
accountability is the glue that holds
the vision intact.
• Leaders motivate, challenge,
encourage, empower and move their
people.
Take a Risk.

A WORD ABOUT HUMILITY…
“The Cornerstone of Leadership.”
“People who are truly effective have the
humility and reverence to recognize
their own perceptual limitations and
to appreciate the rich resources
available through interaction with the
hearts and minds of other human
beings.”
-Stephen R. Covey
Fast Forward to Year 2015…
Questions to Ponder:
What will leaders
need to offer?
What will leaders
need to ask?
What qualities,
talents, and skills will
be critical?
Who will be the face
of leadership?
TAKE HOME MESSAGE…
Appreciate people’s talents and
skills just as they are. This
is the foundation of
teamwork.
Be humble. Servant leadership
means “I’m helping you so
you can reach your goals.”
TAKE HOME MESSAGE…
Managers have authority to
lead. Leaders have
permission to lead.
However, there’s no single
definition of leadership.
Find your circle of productivity.
Then, get in the game.
FINAL THOUGHTS…
Teamwork is the ability to work together
toward a common vision. The ability to direct
individual accomplishments toward
organizational objectives. It is the fuel that
allows common people to attain uncommon
results.
-Andrew Carnegie
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful
committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.
