The Mehoopany Wind Farm

Sponsor:
The Mehoopany Wind Farm is owned 100 percent and
will be operated by BP Wind Energy.
Site Location:
Approximately a 9,000-acre site in Wyoming County
some 20 miles northwest of Scranton (in Noxen,
Forkston, Mehoopany and Eaton townships),
Pennsylvania.
The Project:
The Mehoopany Wind Farm will utilize 90 GE wind
turbines each with a rated capacity of 1.6 megawatts
(MW) and will generate 144 MW of electrical power.
The wind turbines have a hub height of 328 feet and a
rotor diameter of 271 feet.
The wind farm is expected to be commercially
operational in the fourth quarter of 2012. When
complete, the Mehoopany Wind Farm will generate
electricity to power over 40,000 average
American homes annually.
Transmission:
Above-ground 115kV transmission lines for the project
will be constructed on the site and will interconnect into
the existing Mehoopany substation at the
Procter and Gamble facility in Washington township.
Power Sales:
A total of 105 MW of the power output from the
Mehoopany Wind Farm has been sold under two
power purchase agreements; one PPA is for 75 MW
with Old Dominion Electric Cooperative, and a second
with Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative Inc. for
30 MW. BP Wind Energy is marketing the remaining
capacity to other customers in the Northeast U.S.
merchant market.
