Primary School Sport Funding
Purpose of funding:
Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE
and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
‘The Head teacher and I are in agreement about wanting the PE funding to
help staff development and pupil participation in sport.
Where do we start trying to provide excellent training/support for staff
in games, gymnastics and dance so that we have a confident and
knowledgeable staff which leads to excellent teaching and learning?
We would prefer in school support over a period of time to help
staff put their new skills into practise. ‘

Primary School Sport Funding
Accountability:
Schools will be held to account for how they spend the sport funding. Ofsted
will strengthen its coverage of sport and PE within the Inspectors’ Handbook and
supporting guidance, so that schools and inspectors know how sport and PE will
be assessed in future as part of the school’s overall provision offered.
Schools will be required to include details about their sporting provision on their
school website, alongside their curriculum details, so parents can compare
sports provision between schools, both within and beyond the school day.
What evidence will you provide – format and content – template action plan –
Kitemarks (YST/ AfPE/ London Healthy Schools) – certificates of attendance /
engagement for CPD activity – accreditation for sport specific courses?

Vision – Barnet - the home of
outstanding PE and School Sport
Review date: Summer of 2015 – what will it look like then? What will the
steps along the way look like?
Starting date: Now!
What needs to change / be developed in your PE and SS?
Who will drive it?
How will you engage everyone?
Who will help you?
How will you know you are making a difference?
How will you embed that change?

Next steps
1. Designate lead – PE subject leader / SLT i/c T&L / Health and well being
lead – working party / PLCs?
2. Audit of current position and needs (self review process)
3. Determining outcomes around improving teacher competence and
confidence in PE and setting those in a whole school strategy / improvement
plan with time framed milestones
2&3 together will provide a process by which schools can collect evidence of
progress - this will satisfy Ofsted
4. Planning how best those outcomes are met through a range of strategies –
single schools, cluster arrangements, external facilitation, specialist input,
subject leadership, cluster coordinators etc

plans
•Where appropriate increase number of accessed opportunities afforded
through BPSS
