OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT TEACHING GRADE POINT AVERAGE

2.50 for undergraduates, second degree candidates

3.0 for MAT and RITE students PLANS OF STUDY

Required of MAT & RITE students prior to student teaching-submit to OPP (Now all 10 credits and 2 credits, but may have still have some plans for 9 credits)

FULL SEMESTER ELED/SPED Student Teaching Requirement: Any candidate admitted to FSEHD after August 24, 2009 who majors in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education or Secondary Education and a Teaching concentration in Special Education will be required to complete one full semester of student teaching in each certification area.

For more information on this new requirement contact the appropriate Department Chair.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CREDITS/COURSES

Student teaching and seminar are the only credits/courses you will be allowed to be registered for when you student teach. See full academic policy on the web.

Student teaching=10 credits Student teaching Seminar= 2 credits Note: Elementary/Special Education or split placements=5 and 5 credits Three Placements-Severe/Profound additional credits. Need to be fully aware of the credits and cost.

NO INCOMPLETES

OPP will not seek a student teaching placement for any student with an outstanding Incomplete grade on his/her transcript

Grades must be posted by Nov. 1 for fall placements st for spring placements and March 1

DEPARTMENTAL REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT TEACHING

Must be signed off by department and meet all requirements. BE SURE YOU HAVE ALL THE CORRECT COURSES AND NEED 120 CREDITS!!

Preparing to Teach Portfolio must be submitted, reviewed and approved by Teacher Preparation Program

BCI POLICY

Feinstein School of Education and Human Development Procedure Concerning Criminal Background Checks Beginning in January 2010, all individuals who are enrolled in the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development courses that require contact with children/ youth are required to undergo the criminal background check (BCI) process. The BCI Report must be current (within one year).

BCI Bureau of Criminal Identification

As a FSEHD student you are required to carry an original BCI and copies of your BCI when you enter a school

FSEHD offers BCI services twice a year (1 st and 4 th week each semester)

Or go to Attorney General’s Office at 150 South Main St. Providence

Cost=$5.00 (Need form & ID with date of birth/picture like driver’s license, passport or government ID)

EXTRA-EXTRA-IMPORTANT INFO & Details About the Student Teaching Experience

Follow public school calendar

5 full days

Arrive and leave adhering to school time requirements

Attend faculty meetings, PTA….

Not allowed to leave early for work/child care or…

Will need to attend a seminar with the student teaching

Contact cooperating teacher when assignment received

If only assigned one of two split placements don’t panic!

Contact OPP in writing of any changes to name, address, contact info and status of teaching

RIDE certificate can be used as a substitute teaching certificate after you student teach but not all districts honor this (their choice)

We use these districts for our placements

Committed to excellence in teacher preparation

May NOT be placed in a district where you attended school and/or worked and/or have family/relatives working

Your online submission is not guaranteed

Some districts may require a formal interview prior to approval
