Student expectations assembly September 2, 2014 A Visual and Performing Arts School

School Uniform

• White or green collared shirt • Undershirts/tanks must be same color • Shirts must be appropriate size NO Over –SIZED shirts • Khaki pants (no sweatpants) • ACT RESPECTFUL by following the school rules and come dressed appropriately. • NO Short skirts or shorts- Shorts/Skirts must be longer then your finger tips

More about the uniform…

• Jackets and Sweatshirts can be black, brown, white, green or grey… • No red or blue on anything (shoes, backpacks, shoelaces, hair ties …) • No shades of blue, red, purple, burgundy, and pink • No sports logos on shirts, jackets, hats, etc. • PE clothes are not to be worn outside of PE- this include under a uniform shirt • NO HOODS unless it is raining • Hats can be worn outside only

PE Uniform

• All students must dress out • Uniforms may be purchased from the PE department • You may also opt to wear your own solid black basketball shorts, and a solid white or grey crewneck shirt • Dressing out counts as part of your grade

PE Lockers

• You will be issued a locker and a lock to rent . • ACT RESPONSIBLY and lock your items in your locker. • The school is not responsible for any items lost or taken if you leave them out. • Do not share your combination. • Lockers are NOT for books

Attendance

• You are expected to be at school on time, everyday. • If you are sick, your parent must call the attendance office!

• If you are marked absent for three or more periods on different days, you are considered truant!

• Good attendance = success in school

Dismissal

• At dismissal, all students not in Citizen Schools, a sport, or intervention class, must be off campus by 3:15pm • You may exit school in the front, in-between the A and B buildings and at the back of the school.

• All exits are monitored by teachers.

• Bicycles must be walked to the curb. • ACT COMPASSIONATELY and say good by to your friends and staff as you leave for the day.

Passing Periods

• You have only two minutes in-between classes!!

• There is no time to use the restroom, hang out with friends, or walk slow!

• BE RESPONSIBLE for yourself and get to class on time. • Tardies- NOT ACCEPTABLE

Textbooks

• ACT RESPECTFULLY towards the school and take care of the books you were issued. • You are responsible for them and they must be returned –if you loose them you will be charged. • Cover your books!

Grades

• All student will earn a grade of A – F • How to earn an “A” – Turn in homework – Study for quizzes / tests – Participate – Ask questions – Bring materials to school – Complete projects

Honor Roll

Superintendent’s Honor Roll Awards GPA 4.0 (all A’s) Principal’s Honor Roll Awards GPA 3.5 -3.99 Dean’s Honor Roll Awards GPA 3.00 -3.49

Progress/Report Cards

• PROGRESS REPORT – In the middle of each quarter to let you know how you are doing (gives you time to continue to improve or keep up the work) • REPORT CARDS – are issued at the conclusion of each quarter. These count towards your GPA

Activities

• Single/Multiple suspensions will result in exclusion from dances, assemblies, fieldtrips, and other activities • Three Referrals/Disciplinary Actions will result in the student’s ineligibility for that quarter

Athletics and After School Activities

• Cross-country,volleyball, basketball, soccer, wrestling, and track and field teams • In order to participate you must have a 2.0 or better GPA: No D’s or F’s • Progress towards meeting grade level standards • Good behavior

Promotion Requirements

• 2.0 Cumulative GPA or Higher • Be present 90% of the school year • Suspensions and detentions may cause you to loose your privilege of walking across the stage in June!

Cell Phones/Other Electronic Devices

• ACT RESPECTFULLY and do not use you phones on campus or in class.

• ACT RESPONSIBLY by turning them off when you get onto campus.

• All cell phones seen or heard while on campus will be taken away- parents will have to come get them.

Behavior Expectations

ACT compassionately ACT respectfully ACT responsible • No put downs • Follow directions by ALL adults on campus • Use appropriate language on campus

Behavior Expectations Cont.

• Bullying of any kind (verbal, physical, texting) will not be tolerated • Fighting may result in suspension, expulsion and arrest • Gang association (wearing colors, drawing signs, graffiti) may result in suspension, expulsion and arrest • Possession or sales of drugs, alcohol or a weapon will result in suspension or expulsion and the students involved will be arrested

Bike Racks/Bicycles/Scooters

• No skateboards, scooters, or any other rolling devices allowed on campus • Bicycles must be locked • Each bike should have it’s own lock • California Law Requires a helmet to be worn when riding a bike • When entering and exiting the campus you must walk your bike.

Lunch/Brunch

• Act compassionately by saying thank you to the cafeteria staff • Act respectfully towards fellow students by keeping your area and the campus clean (use garbage cans) • Act responsibly while in line for the snack bar by taking your turn in line.

Student Planners

• These are your hall passes • These are your bathroom passes • Use them to keep track of homework and future projects. • Textbook Barcodes • Review the student handbook in the front and turn in the signature page to your social studies teacher.
