MS. STEPHENSON’S CLASS
If someone told you that there is a free, clean, endless
source of energy to provide you with heat and air
conditioning for your home, along with power to run
batteries, fans, toys and lamps, etc., would you want to try
it? Look through our pages and learn more about it.

Solar energy is the energy from the sun

It influences the climate and weather and
supports virtually all life on earth

Can be converted to usable energy

Travels to the earth in the form of
electromagnetic radiation

Sunlight travels to the earth in approximately eight minutes
from 93,000,000 miles away at 186,282 miles per second

Two billion people in the world have no access to electricity


The earth receives more energy from the sun in just one
hour than the world uses in a whole year. The world has
become dependent on oil for much of it's heating and
transportation needs
Accounting for only five percent of the world’s population,
Americans consume 26 percent of the world’s energy
 Solar
power consumes none of our
energy resources, makes no
contribution to air, water, or noise
pollution, does not pose a health
hazard
 Use of solar electric systems
decreases the amount of local air
pollution
Materials that absorb and store the sun’s
heat can be built into sunlit floors and
walls. They heat up during the day and
slowly release heat at night.
 A photovoltaic cell is a device that
generates electricity by reacting to the
suns light rays. To generate a useful
amount of electricity, many of these cells
are combined in a solar panel. These
panels are also known as photovoltaic
cells, solar cells and solar panels.

 Reflectors
are to face the sun
 Preheat using thermometer
 Use same recipe as for conventional
oven
 Place food into a dark, covered pot
 Double the conventional cooking
time
 Germany
and Japan lead the way in
solar usage
 The future will happen with solid
investment now
 Experts feel that in five years, solar
power will be cheap enough to
compete with conventional electricity
Solar power saves our world,
And it cooks our food.
It helps conserve our power bill.
Are you listening, dude?
Solar power helps us all,
By saving energy.
It can work for all of us.
Wouldn’t you agree?
