Our topic today is Baptism.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Feel free to open your BIBLE and follow
along with this lesson. At the Sunnyside
Church of Christ, we follow what is found
in the BIBLE. If you have any questions,
please ask at the end of our service.
Baptism is a part of Salvation…
There are some people today who want
to make decisions that are contrary to
what is found in the BIBLE. They believe
that it is possible to become a Christian
on their terms rather then following
what GOD says. Let’s take a look at what
is found in the BIBLE about Baptism.
The purpose of Baptism
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be
baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ
for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of
the Holy Ghost.
Mark 16:15-16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the
world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that
believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that
believeth not shall be damned.
Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be
baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the
name of the Lord.
The purpose of Baptism
1 Peter 3:20-21 Which sometime were disobedient,
when once the longsuffering of God waited in the
days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing,
wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by
water. The like figure whereunto even baptism
doth also now save us (not the putting away of the
filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good
conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of
Jesus Christ
Acts 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized
in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to
tarry certain days.
The purpose of Baptism
Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as have
been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in
Christ, he is a new creature: old things are
passed away; behold, all things are become
new.
The act of Baptism
Acts 8:36-38 And as they went on their way, they
came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See,
here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart,
thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded
the chariot to stand still: and they went down both
into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he
baptized him.
The act of Baptism
Acts 8:36-38 Know ye not, that so many of us as were
baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death:
that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory
of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of
life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness
of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his
resurrection
Holy Spirit Baptism
Holy Spirit Baptism was never for the remission of
sins. It was recorded two times:
1. In Acts 1:8; 2:1-4 to enable the Apostles to be
understood by those at Pentecost where 3000
were baptized.
2. In Acts 11:15-18; 15:7-8 at Cornelius’ home to
confirm that the Gentiles were acceptable to
GOD.
Candidates for Baptism
Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Ghost
Mark 16:15-16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the
world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that
believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that
believeth not shall be damned.
Candidates for Baptism
Acts 8:36-37 And as they went on their way, they came
unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is
water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip
said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest.
And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is
the Son of God.
Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy
mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart
that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto
salvation.
Candidates for Baptism
Infant baptisms are not found in the BIBLE (No examples).
Matthew 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be
converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter
into the kingdom of heaven.
~~~
Infants can not:
1. Believe (Mark 16:16)
2. Repent of sins (Acts 2:38)
3. Confess Christ (Romans 10:9-10)
Baptisms for conversion
Pentecost – Acts 2:37-41
Samaria – Acts 8:4-13
Ethiopian Eunuch – Acts 8:26-39
Apostle Paul (Saul) – Acts 9:1-20
Cornelius – Acts 10:1-48
Lydia – Acts 16:13-15
Philippian Jailer – Acts 16:23-33

WHY BAPTISM??
1. CHRIST said to be baptized in Matthew 28:18-20.
2. There are many examples in the Book of Acts.
3. We are told that Baptism:
a. is “for the remission of sins” in Acts 2:38.
b. will “wash away thy sins” in Acts 22:16.
Restoration of Fallen Christians
We know that some fell from the faith
(1Timothy 1:18-20; 2 Peter 2:20-22).
Christians can be restored through the
prayers of faithful brethren.
~~~
In a short time we will have a song of
encouragement for those who are needing
such prayers or who are ready to become a
Christian today.
Salvation is through CHRIST
Acts 4:10-12 Be it known unto you all, and to all the
people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised
from the dead, even by him doth this man stand
here before you whole. This is the stone which was
set at nought of you builders, which is become the
head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any
other: for there is none other name under heaven
given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Hear - Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and
hearing by the word of God.
Believe - Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall
be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Repent of Sins - Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye
repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Confess CHRIST – Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess
with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine
heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness;
and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Be Baptized – Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent,
and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ
for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the
Holy Ghost.
