Year 6 Residential Visit to Isle Of Wight

What is School Journey?

East Dene Outdoor Education Centre is a residential outdoor education centre located on the Isle of Wight. It has a national reputation for excellent provision of outdoor adventure activities and field studies.

The staff at the centre are a professional, highly qualified teaching team who are friendly, enthusiastic and supportive. The Centre is a beautifully situated, Grade 2 listed Mansion House, with adjoining Coach House, set in over 10 acres of ancient woodland, overlooking the sea.

Activities

While at the centre children will take part in a number of outdoor activities, led by the qualified centre staff. These include archery, raft building, rock pooling, team tasks (problem solving) and building shelters to name but a few!

Dates and Times

School Journey begins on Monday 18 all medicines before we go. via schoolcoms. th May. We need to leave school by 8:30am, please ensure your child is at school by 8:00 am prompt. This allows us time to check all children and collect Details of our safe arrival will be communicated We return on Friday 22 nd May and should be back at school by approximately 3:30pm. If our arrival time is significantly different, a message will be sent via schoolcoms.

Luggage

Please ensure that your child has a packed lunch and a drink in a throw away bag (no glass bottles or cans please) Please DO NOT provide any chocolate, chewing gum, crisps or sweets.

Please limit luggage to one small case or holdall children will be expected to carry these themselves. Children will also need to bring one small rucksack which will be used to carry their packed lunch whilst at the centre

Rules and Expectations

Whilst we recognise that the excitement and adventure of the situation should be enjoyed by all, we expect our pupils to conduct themselves in a respectful, safe and mature manner during the visit and appreciate your support in demanding the highest standard of behaviour.

Feel free to provide your child with a small amount of spending money (no more than £10) which needs to be sent in to school by

April at the latest. Children are allowed to bring along cameras, though we recommend cheap or disposable ones as they will almost certainly be knocked or dropped. Valuable items are taken at owners risk.

Rules and Expectations

Please do not allow your child to bring mobile phones or other expensive electrical items with them. (Ipods, Ipads etc.) These items will not be insured for damage or loss and can cause a great deal of upset if they go missing. All items should be clearly labelled.

Kit

It is essential that children arrive prepared for their time away. Please refer to the ‘Notes on Luggage,’ previously provided and ensure children have plenty of sensible clothing, underwear and footwear to last the duration of our visit.
