When does it starts?
• Christmas starts on the 5-6th of December
(St Nicolas day)
• That night St Nicolas comes and fills the
children shoes with chocolate, nuts and
oranges.
• If they are bad then St Nicolas servant
gives them bundles of twigs.
How do they decorate there
houses?
• In there windows they put pictures made
of paper or plastic and wooden frames
with candles on them
What food do they eat?
• They have special baking evenings were
they make gingerbread houses and
special dough called christbaumgebäck
which they mould into shapes and bake to
make decorations
What can you buy at German
markets?
• You can buy crib figurines, toys, wood
carvings and candles.
• You can also buy food like roast chestnuts
and sausages.
Are there any differences between
how we celebrate and how they
celebrate?
• They give presents to each other on
Christmas eve.
• The believe that Christ sends an angel
who gives out gifts.
• The normal Santa is called
weihnachtsmann
