ENDER’S GAME
BY: OLSON SCOTT CARD
Chapters 1-2
 Although Ender is only six years old, he already
understands that “sometimes lies are more
dependable than the truth” and that adults often
lie to children.
 First off, what do you think about the statement
“Sometimes lies are more dependable than the
truth”. Do you agree? If so, explain your
reasoning and give an example. If you disagree,
explain why and give an example.
 Second, do parents often lie to children? Do you
think it is sometimes good? Explain how you
feel.

Chapters 3-4
 Card never explains why the government has
made it illegal to have more than two children
per family (unless a third is permitted for military
purposes). First, list three reasons why a
government might decide to pass such a law.
 Second, the population law not only limits
reproduction, but also religious freedom such as
Catholicism and Mormonism. How would you
feel if the government passed regulations
preventing you from practicing your own
personal beliefs, religious or not.

 Unlike the launch group, Salamander Army has
its own slang and manner of speaking. Think of a
group you have or do belong to with its own
“language” or style of speak. What purpose
does the slang or style seem to serve?
 Also, Ender is happy when he find out that, even
though older soldiers haven't met him, they’ve
heard of him and known his name. Do you
prefer to enter into new situations (such as
camp, school, etc) as a completely unknown
person or when people have already heard of
you and formed a few ideas about you?

learn best when there is silence and order or
when there is chaos?

Chapter 9
 Do you agree with Peter that the people in
powerful social situations are not usually the
smartest people? What positions do the
smartest people in our society seem to hold?
If it isn’t incredible intelligence, what
characteristic/s do those in powerful positions
seem to have?
 Also, What is the most important quality a
person in power can have? Why?

 Ender tells Valentine that he think it’s impossible
not to love someone when you truly understand
him/her and what he/she believes. Do you agree
or disagree?
 Valentine feels “responsible for the future of the
world.” She wholeheartedly believes that the
choices she makes will impact not just herself
but countless others. How do you feel about your
own responsibility and ability to make an impact
on the future? Who will your choices affect?

desired result. What do you think of this? Do
you agree or disagree?
