Academic (D)






Emphasis on THEORY.
Works independently in a focused manner.
Completes homework consistently and
thoroughly.
Recommend a minimum of 70% in Grade 9
Academic.
Select English courses in the academic stream if
you are planning on UNIVERSITY
Depending on the university program other
academic courses may be required (such as
science and/or mathematics).
Choosing the Appropriate Level for

Applied (P)




Emphasis on PRACTICAL APPLICATION.
May need assistance to organize and complete homework
regularly.
Less homework assigned.
Students planning to pursue postsecondary studies at the
COLLEGE level or pursue an APPRENTICEABLE
TRADE should select courses in the applied stream.



Emphasis on fundamental skills
For students who are not able to meet the expectations at
the Applied level

Students are able to move from ACADEMIC courses
in Gr. 9 to APPLIED courses in Gr. 10.

Gr. 9 to ACADEMIC courses in Gr. 10 ….
Except for students wishing to switch from MFM1P1
to MPM2D1; they must complete a transfer course at
SUMMER SCHOOL or sequence grade 9 and grade
10 academic math for next year.

What do you do if you failed a
compulsory course in Grade 9?



If you do not plan to attend summer
school you must add it as one of your
course selections for next year.
If you are planning on attending summer
school, you can add the course(s) that you
wish to upgrade in the “Other Credit”
section located below the SUBMIT button.
In May, come to guidance to sign up for
summer school.

Course Subject Fees
 Be
aware of any course fees
required!
 Courses with large course fees
may require a non- refundable
deposit in the Spring.
Submit Your Courses!
 Click on “Submit” once you have
completed all of your selections.
 Once you submit you cannot go
back in to change selections.
 We will meet with all students who
submit their courses on time in
April/May to review your
selections. If you book an
appointment prior to this, you will
not be seen a second time.
Print the “Course Request Sign-off Sheet,” get it signed
and return it to your homeroom teacher.
If you are unsure of a course, take
advantage of the Elective Course
Fair and ask a teacher from that
subject area what is taught!
For students without internet
access at home the school
library is available at lunch for
your convenience.
Course selections must be
completed and submitted
on-line by:

Tuesday, February 24 .
Hand in the “Sign-off Sheet”
to your homeroom teacher by
Wednesday, February 25th.
 Choose
your courses wisely and
correctly the first time as
options for timetable changes
may be limited!!!!!!
