* Compulsory courses failed in Semester 1 must be included in
your course selections. Changes will be made once courses have
been successfully completed.
* Compulsory courses: English, Religion, and Math
* If you select ENG3U1, then you must select HRT3M1
* If you select ENG3C1, then you must select HRF3O1
* You need to choose 5 electives and 2 alternates
* If you are moving from an Applied level this year to a
University level next year, then you should speak with your
counsellor as to how this can be done
* Students are NOT allowed to take English or Math courses in
Summer School

date it too. Return both to your
homeroom teacher with your
Activity Fee.

Specialist High Skills Major

SPECIALIST HIGH SKILL MAJOR
• The SHSM is a Ministry approved program offered to Grade 10
students going into Grade 11
• This program is open to all workplace, college, and university bound
students
• The SHSM program allows students to explore and prepare for careers
in medicine, health care, teaching, psychology, social work,
kinesiology, fitness, food and nutrition, veterinary medicine, and much
more
• The program is a two year commitment that ‘bundles’ various interrelated courses, including a cooperative education placement
• While in the program students in Graded 11 and 12 earn certifications
such as First Aid /CPR and are exposed to various ‘reach ahead’
experiences through field trips, guest speakers, and visits to colleges
and universities
• Students who successfully complete the required program components
will earn a Red Seal on their Ontario Secondary School Diploma

Criteria
Requirements of Co-op:
• Be at least 15 years of age in Grade 11
• Earned at least 15 credits
• Complete a Co-op Educational Application Form, signed
by 2 teacher references
• Successfully complete an interview with a member of the
Co-op Department
