• The first overseas campus of Middlesex University
• Opened in January 2005, with 28 students
• Today MDX Dubai has more than 2,600 students
from over 90 nationalities
• A diverse range of foundation, undergraduate and
postgraduate programmes
• Located in Knowledge Village
• More than 2,000 graduates

• Of the 162 branch campuses in the world today, half
are located in Gulf, and 25% are located in the UAE
• There are more than 100 universities in the UAE
which has a population of about 8 million
• There are 53 universities in Dubai
• 26 of the HE institutions in Dubai are international
branch campuses from 10 different countries
(Australia, UK, USA, India, Russia, Iran, Pakistan,
Ireland, France and Lebanon)

A Case Study
Quality Assurance
• Internal Quality Assurance system between home campus and
branch campus (structure and procedures at all levels,
programmes, modules, inputs, processes, outcomes, etc)
• Quality Assurance Agency (QAA)
– Dubai campus formed an integral part of the 2009 Institutional Review
– The audit identified as ‘good practice’ the meticulous attention given
to the establishment, development and integration of the University’s
Dubai campus
• Dubai Government’s (KHDA) University Quality Assurance
International Board - UQAIB
– Equivalency Validation Model: University demonstrates that the
quality of programmes taught in Dubai are equivalent to those at the
home campus in London
