As an individual’s education and skills increase
the income gap closes:
As the global workforce has changed, so has the definition of the
well-prepared worker. All future workers who are paid well require
specialized training that is equivalent to a college education.

ON SKYWARD!!
• Maintaining strong grades through junior year is especially
important.
• Schools will be looking at grades through the Junior year
when students apply. They only see senior grades after
students have been accepted.
• Students should be studying at least 2 hours
each night as well as participate in
study groups.
Continue extracurricular activities, as schools look at
students’ extracurricular activities when considering
them for admission.
Continue participation in academic enrichment
programs, summer workshops and camps with
specialty focuses such as music, arts, science
etc.
Best Works: Each school year, students are required to submit one
project/paper to represent their best works. Once the Best Works is
selected, the student writes (typed) a reflection answering guided
questions.
Technology Competencies: Students will demonstrate proficient use of
technology as defined by the Kent School District Student Technology
Standards in the context of their normal classroom work.
Awards & Activities: Students will display evidence of curricular,
co-curricular, and/or extra-curricular awards and activities.
Career Components:
Career Pathways: a survey that helps student identify their
educational pathway.
Four Year Plan: a plan of classes students will take over the four
years they are at Kentridge.
High School and Beyond Plan: a plan in which the
students answers questions about their career path,
obstacles they may need to overcome & solutions.

Start planning today!!
The sooner students start planning and the higher their
grades, the more options they will have for college. Good
attendance and study habits are vital elements to a successful
future.
Exploring career options as well as colleges and universities
will help students discover their futures.
• Talk to your students about careers and college
• Go to the HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND night:
Wednesday February 4th- 6:00- 8:30pm at Kentwood HS
• Visit college campuses
• Look for summer opportunities: jobs, internships or volunteer positions
• Explore www.collegeboard.org (this has almost all the info you will need)
• Sign-up to take the PSAT during the fall of the Sophomore year
• Make sure your child reads every night
• Help set good study habits
