and online resources
• Help you find evidence

Becoming a member
You need to become a
member to use some of our
services.
Contact any of the libraries to
enquire about joining.
Borrowing books
Library members can borrow from a
diverse collection of books and
reports relating to health care,
health promotion, and management.
Most books are loaned out for a
month at a time. (Books in high
demand may be issued for a week
or available for reference only.)
If we don’t have the book you need
we can almost always get hold of it
within a few days.
Journals
Library members have access to
hundreds of health care journals in
print and online.
You’ll be able to access these
electronic journals from your
workplace or from home. (Ask us
about the passwords you’ll need).
If we don’t have what you need,
the library can usually obtain a
copy from another library.
Electronic resources
We provide online access to:
• Databases of journal articles
• Full text journals
• Electronic books
• Exam preparation tools
• Best evidence tools
and much, much more….
Photocopying and printing
One card for photocopying
and printing.
Cards are either
rechargeable or disposable.
Members are asked to
comply with current
copyright law which is on
display in the library.
Study areas
We provide a quiet
environment for you to
read, study or simply to
relax.
We also offer 24-houra-day access to the
libraries for library
members.
Literature searches
The library staff are happy to
assist users in searching on a
wide range of health care issues
or they can carry out literature
searches on request.
Training
Our information skills trainers will
teach you how to improve your
online searching in order to find
the answers to clinical and
managerial questions.
We also provide workshops on
how to read research papers.
Sessions are held in your
workplace or in the library, in
groups or one-to-one, and
courses can be tailor made.
Horizon scanning
The library staff can help you
keep up-to-date in your field.
We don’t overload you with
information but send out short,
targeted notifications about
newly published evidence that
will inform your work.
Clinical librarians
Our clinical librarians work with clinical teams across three trusts to help
ensure that decisions are evidence-based, as well as to support
professional development.
Public health librarian
The Public Health Librarian works with
public health and primary care
professionals in East Sussex and
Brighton and Hove providing:
• Evidence for public health and commissioning
• A personalised horizon scanning service,
Public Health Alerts, which is tailored to
individuals’ specific professional interests.
• Training on accessing the public health
literature.
Health promotion
Our health promotion team
supplies hundreds of local GP
practices, schools, charities,
clinics and hospital wards with
leaflets and other resources to
promote healthy living.
The health promotion stock
includes books, videos, training
materials, physiological and
anatomical models, teaching
packs and DVDs.
Mental health
We provide a full library service to all staff
of Sussex Partnership Trust, and to all
NHS staff and students based at Mill View
Hospital, Nevill Hospital, Hove Polyclinic,
and in the local community.
