Describe the Job
• I was chosen the career of Culinary Arts. There
are many things I can do with this career
choice. Some include, food preparation,
cooking of all foods, the creating of the menu,
price the foods, order supplies, and manage a
business. I can help trainee chefs and even
open a restaurant of my own. I think I would
really like this career choice.
Nature of the Work
• There are quite a bit of important work activities I am
expected to do as a chef. One of the most important
things I would need to be able to do is communicate
with supervisors, peers or subordinates, which includes
providing information by telephone, written form, email, or in person. Another thing I am expected to do is
send and receive information, I need to be able to
guide, direct, and motivate subordinates, such as
setting performance standards and monitoring
performance. Also, I will have to be expected to handle
and move objects, such as using hands and arms in
handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials,
and manipulating things.
Abilities Required
• I need to make sure I have the right abilities as
a chef. For example, enterprising, being
realistic, and being artistic or creative. For
enterprising, I need to be able to run my own
business and restaurant. To be realistic, I need
to set my goals, I need to make sure they
aren’t too complicated and unrealistic. Also,
being creative brings out my own personality
into my cooking.
Knowledge and Skills
• To become a chef, I need to have specific knowledge
and skills. This includes, being able to run and manage
a business, being able to handle money, customer and
personal service, languages, and mathematics.
Management is especially important because I need to
be able to run my own business. Mathematics is also
very important because I have to do a lot of measuring
when I cook, and also for a business, I need to be able
to manage my money. Languages can also help me out
a lot because a lot of chefs travel all around the world
and discover foods from different countries.

on-the-job training, and/or vocational training. I
am also required a minimum of two to four years
of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience. I
need to be able to get through college in order to
do well in this career.
