Multi faith society
Multi faith society is
many different
religions living in one
society.
• Britain is a multi faith society because
several religions are practised in Britain
and everyone is free to practice their
religion.
Benefits of living in multi faith
society
• It increases tolerance and understanding
as people realise that every one is entitled
to their own opinion on religion
• It gives people insight into different
religions
• It makes believers seriously think about
their own belief.
• It has to have religious freedom which may
help stop religious conflict.
Issues raised for religion by a multi
faith society
1.Conversion – many religions see it as their
duty, to convert everyone because,
They believe their religion is the only true
religion
The holy books teach them that they should
convert non believers
2.Trying to convert other religion
might cause major problems
because
• Treating people differently because of their
religion and trying to convert other religion
is discriminating
• It is impossible to say all other religions
are wrong unless you have studied all of
them
• Trying to convert others can lead to
arguments and even violence when
people are told their religion is wrong
3.Bringing up children
• Children are faced with choosing which religion
if their parents have different religion.
• Most religions encourage parents to ensure that
their brought up in their religion.
• Children educated in state schools are tempted
away from religious lifestyles into the different
lifestyles of other non –religious teenagers
4.Interfaith marriages
• In a multi faith society, young people of
different faith are going to meet, fall in love
and want to marry
• This can raise problems because,
• Often both couples must be members of
the same religion to marry
Racial harmony
• The UK promote racial harmony to stop
prejudice, discrimination and racism.
• It does this by encouragement (making racial
harmony part of the national curriculum, having
black judges and cabinet ministers) and by law.
• The race relation act 1976 bans all forms of
racism.
• All the major political parties opposed to racism
