Once you register online, take a moment to visit your “event headquarters.” Follow the instructions to personalize your page and send out emails. – http://www.arthritis.org/fundraising-resources.php – Banners and Badges – Facebook Timeline Images Make it count! • Remind your event participants to: – Add your link to EVERY message so your friends can easily access your page to donate or register. – Thank each of your friends on their pages. You never know who else is going to read their page and possibly donate to you. – Have fun and make it personal. – If you have teammates on Facebook or Twitter, post comments that help create some healthy competition. – Make your language specific to yield better results. – Messages with a * are specifically geared toward an audience that both checks and updates their status on a frequent basis. These messages contain a “follow up” element. KEEP IN MIND… Administration • All pages require ADMIN - designated FB profile - for security reasons because they want a real person. Admin are not public - add multiple admins - invite by email or FB always have multiples as a precaution so you don't loose access to the page. Online Engagement • Whether in the actual or virtual world your interactions and discourse should be respectful. • Be respectful to the Arthritis Foundation, employees, members, clients, corporate sponsors and competitors. When you post something related to the Arthritis Foundation don’t use obscenities, personal insults, ethnic slurs or other disparaging language to express yourself. • Try your best to avoid personal attacks, online fights and hostile personalities. If someone posts a statement you disagree with, you can voice your opinion but don’t escalate the conversation to a heated, personal argument. • Be transparent. If blogging about work at the Arthritis Foundation use your real name, identify you work for us and be clear about your role. • Write in the first person, however, whenever your connection to the Arthritis Foundation is apparent, make it clear you are speaking for yourself and not on behalf of us. We recommend you include the following statement perhaps in the “About Me” section of your blog or website: – The postings on this site are my own and do not represent The Arthritis Foundation positions, strategies or opinions. • Always try to add value and insight, attempt to educate, or help solve a problem if you want to respond to a status update or news story about the Foundation. • Don’t share anything you are not comfortable with. Once it is published online it is in the public domain so think twice about the comments you post and the story you want to share. • If you’re about to publish something that makes you even the slightest bit uncomfortable don’t do it. • Link to others and always build relationships. That's what our work is all about. • Also strive to protect your privacy. • Don’t spam. Ever! However… • I have found that using these sites is not always the most efficient! • You lose the ability to: – Track who has clicked on your link – Who has recently followed you – Ability to schedule messages. • But there is a solution… SOCIAL MEDIA APPLICATIONS Easy to use social media applications that will integrate everything! Also known as HootSuite! HootSuite • FREE!!! • Manage multiple social profiles – Have a Facebook and Twitter account? HootSuite Hootlet • Want to share a link? No need to leave the page. Hit the Hootlet button, and your tweet is almost done. Automatically, the URL is shortened and text is grabbed from the site’s <title> tag. It’s that easy! • So what is the Hootlet like in action? Let’s take a peek. Installation • It can’t get any simpler than this. To install the Hootlet, you drag and drop it into the bookmark bar. Still confused? Don’t worry, they have this nifty YouTube tutorial. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHxUm7a tb0o&feature=player_embedded Using the Hootlet • The Hootlet takes simplicity to insane heights. What must you do to use it? Press the Hootlet button in the bookmark bar. • Once you do that, a new window pops up. Your URL has been shrunk with our ow.ly URL shortener, and the tweet is ready to go. But what makes the Hootlet more amazing is the ability to schedule! • What’s HootSuite if you can’t manage multiple accounts? You can do that from the Hootlet too. Click on the profiles you want to use for tweeting, and a checkmark confirms what accounts will send the message. How Can the Hootlet Help? • The Hootlet saves time. With it, you no longer have to manually shorten a URL — an ow.ly link is provided automatically. Headlines are grabbed from the source’s <title> tag and are used as default text. Best of all, you never have to leave a site to tweet about. This is why the Hootlet is our secret weapon — and will be yours too.
