About RE and PE

In addition to the Government the governors of a school are expected to have an input as to the nature of the school’s curriculum.

Our school is a Catholic school and a Sports College. Both dimensions are not only at the heart of the ethos of our community but are also at the heart of our curriculum.

All students follow a GCSE course in Religious Education.

All students will follow a Physical Education course for 2 periods / week which will develop the individual’s use of sport as a vehicle to enhance their personal, physical and mental wellbeing.

Personalised Learning.

We want to provide a curriculum that is suitable for each individual student.

This may involve: •Being entered early for a GCSE in the Spring term of Year 11 or even Year 10.

•Being entered for an additional qualification, i.e. GCSE Statistics •Being entered for a course that doesn’t have any final examination but is assessed through a portfolio etc.

Continuity and Progression.

Thornleigh is very lucky in being an 11-18 College.

Where ever possible we aim to provide students with a post 16 pathway that builds on their KS4 curriculum.

Your Year group is the first who will have to stay in some form of education or training until at least age 17.

All the departments represented here tonight can give further details.
