Robert Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796) (also known as Rabbie Burns,

Scotland's favourite

son, the Ploughman Poet, Robden of Solway Firth, the Bard of Ayrshire and in Scotland as simply

The Bard.

The literary English and Scottish dialec in which his mother sang songs and his aunt told tales of horror about witches influenced Robert's character and his work.

He lived a short life of 40 years, but it was full of events.

 He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland, and is celebrated worldwide. He is the best known of the poets who have written in the Scots language, although much of his writing is also in English and a "light" Scots dialect, accessible to an audience beyond Scotland.

A RED, RED ROSE О my Luve's like a red, red rose, That's newly sprung in June; О my Luve's like a melodie That's sweetly play'd in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,  So deep in luve am I:  And I will luve thee still, my dear,   Till a' the seas gang dry; Till a ?

the seas gang dry, my dear, And the rocks melt wi' the sun; And I will luve thee still, my dear, While the sands olife shall run.

 And fare thee weel, my only Luve! And fare thee weel a while! And I will come again, my Luve, Tho' it were ten thousand mile.
