Internship in an area of school
Over the course of the program, you should
have the following experiences:
 Diversity in districts for your field
placements
 Diversity in grade levels for your field
placements
 Diversity in working with groups of people
based on ethnicity, race, SES, gender,
exceptionalities, language, religion, sexual
orientation, and geographical area.

The field experiences are integrated
across the semester:
 one day a week for approximately the first 10
weeks of the semester, and
 every day during the last five weeks of the
semester.

You provide your own transportation for
the internship.



Conducting criminal background checks on
preservice teachers participating in field
experiences is a normal procedure for all
school systems.
Criminal background checks are conducted
through the Office of Field Experiences.
This process must be completed by the date
indicated on your information sheet. You will
not be placed in a block section until you
have completed the background check.



In CI 3110 (Social Studies Methods) you will learn
how to develop and implement a servicelearning project in YOUR internship classroom.
You will teach an age-appropriate servicelearning project connected to the social studies
curriculum to the children in your classroom.
With these final 10 hours of service, this will
complete your 20 hours of service-learning and
ALL 40 hours of your graduation requirement for
Elementary Education.
As always you must make an appointment at
posted times to meet with your advisor prior to
early registration.

You need to complete the pre-registration
form and the background check forms.

You will be placed in a Block II section once
your background check is complete and you
have passed each of your Block I
requirements.

If you have not already done so, you need to
apply for a graduation check as soon as
possible in the Office of Field Experiences.

This check will help us to ensure that you are
on target to graduate with your course
requirements fulfilled after you have
completed your student teaching semester.

During the end of Block II you will need to
take Praxis II test #5015.

Check availability dates and register at
Educational Testing Services.

This test is REQUIRED before graduation and
to earn your Standard Professional 1 License
from the state. You will not be considered for
employment without this license.

You will need a score of 161 to pass.


Attend the mandatory student teacher
meetings conducted by the Office of Field
Experiences.
You will not be allowed to begin student
teaching unless you have passed each Block II
course with a C or better and continue to
maintain a 2.5 GPA.

Through the Reich College of Education, ASU
offers education majors the opportunity to
student teach in another country.
Currently we work in schools in Costa Rica,
Ireland, and Mexico.
Student teachers spend the last 5 weeks of
their placement in an international school.
Visit the Office of Field Experiences (Dean’s
Office) for more information.
