Troubleshooting Tips
7/20/2015
18
For a Positive Testing Experience…
Screen savers/power
management set to a
longer timeout
Restrict when possible
intensive bandwidth use
during testing (VoIP,
Payroll, Drop box)
Restore software (Deep
Freeze, etc.) configured
to retain test data after
reboot
All other applications
closed on testing
machines during the test
Anti-virus software full
scans scheduled after
testing hours
Text To Speech –
Volume and MP3
Laptop protocol – Use
AC power, wired
access, wireless check
For a
Positive
Testing
Experience…
Whitelist *.ctb.com (or
CTB IPs if applicable)
Student Experience – Lost Network
Lost connectivity
• Wait screen notification (60 seconds)
• Option to exit after retry
• Proctor alert
• Graphical indicator of network retry
• Zero time log back into test
1. Connectivity
between
workstation and
CTB server
disrupted.
3. Failure to
reconnect after
60 seconds –
“Exit Test”
2. Attempts to
Reconnect to
Test for 60
seconds
Successful
reconnection
within 60 seconds
– Test
automatically

Final Clarifying Points
• Sessions time out after 20 minutes of inactivity; remind students to
periodically move the mouse if they are not otherwise interacting with the
test
• Be sure screen saver is disabled and automatic updates from the network
level are suspended during testing
• There should only be one session created per school and grade for the
entire 5 day window
• One session covers both reading and math (Grades 5 and 8). Correct
access is determined by the access code which is unique to each content
area
• Students are already assigned to classes. When assigning students to test
sessions, their class (group) is assigned with them by default
• Make up tests are given in the same test session as the “main”
administration; the login and access code are the key.
• Be sure you are using the live OAS login received around 4/22.

If testing is completed before the
close of your 5 day window, set
End Date to your new closing date;
scores will automatically extract
overnight; remember to call CTB to
verify you are ready to start
scoring
