Policy Letter 08-01, due to be cancelled (superseded by new
policy). New Rule reduces the amount of service required and
the options for qualification offered under old regulation 46 CFR
12.10-3. (i.e. 2 yrs sea service in other departments, Graduation
from a school ship, completion of basic training by a Cadet etc.
Mariners who began their service before 03/24/14 still may
qualify under the old regulations.
Mariners must complete a CG approved course to show the
practical demonstrations.

completed before January 1, 2017.
