Congratulations on starting your scholarship process! The Spider Battalion ROTC Cadre is committed to each and every Cadet in our unit. We will expertly train and mentor our future leaders so they have the competence, leadership and confidence necessary to lead from the front. Our Cadre, in conjunction with the Cadet leadership, accomplishes this through a deliberate and balanced training plan that allows plenty of time for academic, athletic and social activities. This program commissions some of the finest young leaders in our Army. I applaud you for considering selfless service to the nation and I wish you the best during your scholarship process.

Cadets have the opportunity to attend Military Specialty schools (Airborne, Air Assault, Northern Warfare, Mountain Warfare) in each of their first 2 summers. Cadets can attend Cadet Troop Leader Training and Internships in their 3 rd summer after LDAC.

Nursing Program

• ROTC is flexible to the needs of our Varsity Student Nurses • VCU 4 year Nursing Program is ranked #14 in the Nation • Independent study courses to accommodate rigorous core course requirements • Nurses are required to only attend 1 of 2 weekend events during a semester • Nurse Summer Training Program allows nursing students to conduct internship in an active Army Medical Center shadowing a Nurse Lieutenant • Incremental accessories provided to Nurses during their Cadet career – Scrubs, Litmann Stethoscope & PDA with pharmacology data and computations.

• NCLEX prep course paid for by US Army

ROTC Class

• ROTC is the best leadership course you will take in college.

• Our ROTC classroom instruction is built around learning the fundamentals of officership. We use our recent deployment experiences to make the instruction relevant. We teach using a combination of lectures, discussions, guest speakers and practical exercises.

• ROTC Class is 1x per week until Junior Year; 2x per week Junior and Senior Years • No Weekly Labs. The Spider Battalion executes one large Leadership and Tactics Lab each semester.

ROTC Training

• Cadets run our program and conduct tactical planning and execution throughout the year. There are 4 military posts within 1 hour of our program – we don’t waste our valuable training time driving long distances.

• Individual PT of Excellence Program. PT is 3x per week.

• The battalion executes one 48 hour training exercise each semester. We occupy patrol bases, conduct land navigation and squad tactics lanes and execute obstacle courses. We stress leadership, responsibility and accountability from the start.

• We conduct optional rappelling, weapons qualification and training events every semester. The Spider Battalion has an arsenal of paintball guns which we use to run Battle Drills that improve target acquisition, target engagement and maneuver.

Scholarship awardees will earn full tuition at the below institutions:

Contracted Cadets receive a monthly stipend during their college years:

Candidate Visits

 You can only make an informed decision on college by visiting each of the schools to which you are applying.

 ROTC Candidate Orientation Visits  Visits are Cadet-escorted and offer a great opportunity to see our facilities, talk to our Cadre and learn about our program.
