Points of interests in THE USA
The United States of
America is one of the
most fabulous places in
the world and I would
like to introduce you
there.
WELCOME TO FABULOUS
LAS VEGAS SIGN
The famous Welcome to Fabulous Las
Vegas sign was created in 1959 by Betty
Willis and Ted Rogich and placed on the
Las Vegas Strip to greet people visiting the
America’s playground. Over the years the
sign had been moved a few times.
The design was never copyrighted and
remains in public domain.
SEARS TOWER
Sears Tower is a 527 meter (1,730
feet) high, 442 m (1,451 ft) without
the two antennas, skyscraper
located at 233 South Wacker
Drive, Chicago, IL. It has been the
tallest building in the world since
1973 to 1998, claiming this title
from the World Trade Center and
loosing to Petronas Tower in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia 25 years later.
Sears Tower was build in little over
two years at a cost of about
US$150 million paid in full by Sears,
Roebuck & Co.
One of the main tourist attractions
of Chicago, the Sears Tower
Skydeck, is located 412 m (1,353
feet) on the 103rd floor. On a
windy day visitors can experience
the building swaying.
STATUE OF LIBERTY
Statue of Liberty is a word-famous
monumental statue located near
the entrance to the New York
Harbor and welcoming all people
coming to the USA. This widely
recognized landmark was a gift
from the French people made in
1886 to commemorate the
centennial of the United States. It
was build in France and brought
to the States by ship in 350 pieces.
The copper statue itself is 46
meters (151 feet) high, but with
the stone pedestal it's placed on
reaches the height of 93 m (305
feet). Due to its size and location
Statue of Liberty was used as a
lighthouse from 1886 to 1902.
The crown of the Statue of Liberty
provides a broad view of the New
York Harbor, but is closed to the
public at this time.
HOLLYWOOD
The Hollywood Sign is a wellknown landmark in the
Hollywood Hills in LA, CA. First
put out in 1923 as an
advertisement, the 15 meter
(50 feet) high sign earned
much recognition and a
permanent place in the Los
Angeles landscape. Originally
it spelled "HOLLYWOODLAND",
now just "HOLLYWOOD".
The letters were each
donated by a different
person:
H - Joel Ruiz
O - Giovanni Mazza
L - Lauren Austin-Harvey
L - Gene Autry
Y - Hugh Hefner
W - Andy Williams
O - Warner Bros. Records
O - Alice Cooper, in
memory of Groucho Marx

The Golden Gate Bridge is
a 227 m (746 feet) high
and 2,737 m (8,981 feet)
long suspension bridge
designed by Joseph Strauss
and spanning over San
Francisco Bay. At the time
of construction it was the
longest structure of this
type in the world with the
longest span of 1,280 m
(4,200 feet). It was build in
little over four years to be
opened on 27th of May
1937 and cost about $26M.
Golden Gate Bridge, with
its distinguishing orange
paintjob, is one of the most
recognized landmarks of
California, and the whole
USA for that matter. It is
widely regarded as one of
the most beautiful bridges
in the world.
Mount Rushmore
National Memorial
Mount Rushmore National
Memorial is a sculpture created
by Gutzon Borglum in a granite
mountain near Keystone, SD, USA.
It portrays the heads of four US
presidents - George Washington
(1732–1799), Thomas Jefferson
(1743–1826), Theodore Roosevelt
(1858–1919), and Abraham
Lincoln (1809–1865) – and is one
of the most famous sites in the
United States.
Originally the presidents were to
be carved from head to waist,
but due to extensive costs this
idea has been abounded and
only 18 meter (60 feet) heads
were created.
Construction of the monument
took 400 workers almost exactly
14 years, no one died during that
period, but some injuries
occurred.
