POETRY

 What is Poetry?  writing chosen and arranged to create a certain emotional response through meaning, sound, and rhythm  Many different types. You will learn these types and make examples of them.  Poetry Project

ACROSTIC

 An Acrostic poem is a poem where the first letter of each line would spell out a word if it were read vertically. Usually the vertical word would be the subject of the poem.

 P oetry is fun.

  O ne has to just choose a topic and be creative.

E ven considered a beautiful form of art.

CINQUAIN

 a form consisting of five lines. Each has a required number of syllables, and a specific topic. Line 1:Title (noun)- 2 syllables Line 2: Description- 4 syllables Line 3: Action- 6 syllables Line 4: Feeling (phrase)- 8 syllables Line 5: Title (synonym for the title)- 2 syllables

CINQUAIN

 Example: 

Flowers Pretty, fragrant Waiting, watching, weeding Enjoying all the while they grow Gardens

Alphabet Alliteration

 In alliteration, each important word in the line begins with the same letter. These poems end up being crazy, nonsense poems. Use your imagination and alliteration skills to write three words for each alphabet letter. If you want to, write longer alliteration phrases. The first word should be an

adjective (word describing a noun), followed by a noun (the subject - the person or thing), followed by a verb (showing the action that the subject does). 8 letters for first poem, all 26 letters to count for 2 poems.

Haiku

 an ancient Japanese form with no rhyme. Haiku often deals with nature.  This type of poetry has three lines with a fixed number of syllables: Line 1= 5 syllables Line 2= 7 syllables Line 3= 5 syllables

The dying plant bends And drips its dew to the ground It falls like a tear

The wind is blowing The bush rustles very hard I love the hard wind

Five Senses Poem

 This type of poetry tells how your five senses deals with the subject of your choice.

Pick anything you want to write poetry about, then write a poem using these six lines: Line 1. Tell what color the emotion is Line 2. Tell what it sounds like Line 3. Tell what it tastes like Line 4. Tell what it smells like Line 5. Tell what it looks like Line 6. Tell how it makes you feel

5 Senses example

      Summer is yellow It tastes like lemonade It sounds like kids splashing in the lake It smells like dandelions It looks like boating It makes me feel overjoyed!

CONCRETE POETRY

 A concrete poem is a poem that forms a picture of the topic or follows the contours of a shape that is suggested by the topic  This can also be called shape poetry and is very visual and artistic.

Bio Poem

A Biopoem is a poem that describes a person in 11 lines. There is a specific formula to use when writing a bio poem.

( First name) (Four adjectives that describe the person) Son or Daughter of (your parents names) Lover of (three different things that the person loves) Who feels (three different feelings and when or where they are felt) Who gives (three different things the person gives) Who fears (three different fears the person has) Who would like to see (three different things the person would like to see) Who lives (a brief description of where the person lives) -(last name)
