Do What You Love

“If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, like Shakespeare wrote poetry, like Beethoven composed music; sweep streets so well that all the host of Heaven and Earth will have to pause and say, “here lived a great sweeper, who swept his job well.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.-

Attitude Is Everything!

The most important attribute you will bring to the job. Number 1 on my list for hiring. Single most important factor in your happiness.

Quotes

“The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter their life by altering their attitude.” William James (1842-1910) “Your thoughts determine your actions, your actions determine your character, and your character gives birth do your destiny.” Unknown “It doesn’t do any good to tell other people your problems. 80% don’t care about them, and the other 20% are glad you have them.” Lou Holtz

Quotes

“ The secret of success is to keep the five guys who hate you away from the four guys who are still undecided.” Casey Stengel Attitudes are contagious. Is yours worth catching?

Dennis and Wendy Mannering “Guard two things with your life, your time and your attitude.” Jerry Layo

Quotes

“I can’t change other people. I can only change how I react to them.” Dan Conroy

Attitude

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearances, gifts or skill. It will make or break a company…a church…a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past…we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have and that is our attitude…I am convinced that life is 10% what happens, and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you…we are in charge of our Attitudes.

Pick A Good Role Model

Benchmark yourself against excellence Don’t waste energy on someone else’s: Job Title Pay Workload

Jackie Robinson:

Jackie Robinson (first black major leaguer) had it in his contract not to complain if people spit on him.

Don’t be a Victim

"Don't succumb to being a victim or having a victim mentality. If Obama thought of himself as a victim, he never would have become president of the United States."

Dr. Alvin Poussaint

Know Thyself (and thy boss)

Learn how the generations are different, and how they perceive each other Think about how you (generationally) are perceived by your boss Understand your bosses generation and what is important (or annoying) to them

Pay It Forward

Do more than is expected, and ultimately you will receive more than you expected.

The Question Behind The Question (QBQ) You Determine Your Own Destiny Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.

Carpe Diem

Y O U D I D N ' T There was a girl who gave me a poem, and she gave me permission to share it with you, and I want to do that because it explains about putting off and putting off and putting off - especially putting off caring about people we really love. • by Dr. LEO BUSCAGLIA She wants to remain anonymous, but she calls the poem, "THINGS YOU DIDN'T DO" and she says this:

Carpe Diem

Remember the day I borrowed your brand new car and I dented it?

• I thought you'd kill me, but you didn't.

And remember the time I dragged you to the beach, and you said it would rain, and it did?

• I thought you'd say, "I told you so." But you didn't.

Do you remember the time I flirted with all the guys to make you jealous, and you were?

• I thought you'd leave me, but you didn't.

Carpe Diem

Do you remember the time I spilled strawberry pie all over your car rug?

• I thought you'd hit me, but you didn't.

And remember the time I forgot to tell you the dance was formal and you showed up in jeans?

• I thought you'd drop me, but you didn't.

Yes, there were lots of things you didn't do, but you put up with me, and you loved me, and you protected me.

Carpe Diem

There were lots of things I wanted to make up to you when you returned from Viet Nam.

• But you didn't.
