•
Companies can tailor specific views for each
manager reflecting their role, responsibilities
and decision needs.
Managers get ‘at-a-glance’ views to quickly
identify exceptions, hours worked, and
employee attendance.
Managers can streamline and simplify daily,
weekly, and pay period tasks, eliminating
unnecessary steps.

Key Benefits of Genies (continued)
• A “home base” for easy navigation through the
Workforce Timekeeper system.
• A direct route to the data in question by way of
“drill-down” options.
• An easy way to select an employee group and
perform a group edit.

• E-mail Integration
• Allows you to invoke your local e-mail client from within Workforce
Timekeeper Genies or Timecards to send messages to selected people.
• Usually performed by a Workforce Manager and sent to one or more
employees.
• E-mails are sent on an as needed basis.
• Workflow Notifications
• You can configure the system to automatically send e-mail reminders or
alerts at scheduled times or when certain events occur.
• Usually set up by System Administrators and sent to appropriate People.
• E-mail Notifications are sent automatically.

• Approval is an indication of acceptance, and indicates that the
timecard is finished being edited and is ready for payroll processing.
• It can be done by both the employee and the manager.
• Sign-off closes the timecard from further edits and approvals.
• Usually performed by Payroll just prior to submitting hours to the
payroll company.
• Payroll lock prevents any users from making changes to directly
timecards or schedules.
• Historical Edits can be made for adjustments.
• It protects the integrity of data and helps system performance.

Summary of DCM Basics
• The DCM system can be used with different Kronos host
applications.
• Three connection methods are available: Ethernet,
serial, or modem.
• Two collection methods are available: batch and online.
• The Comm PC acts as a middleman between devices
and the database. A Monitor PC is optional.
• A DCM system that includes more than one Comm PC,
or a Monitor PC, is defined as a network installation.
• Valid punches are saved in the punchevent.tbl. Invalid
punches are saved in the dcminvalidtrx.tbl.
• You can correct invalid punches with the Transaction
Data Editor.

Uploading (Collecting) Data
Uploading data occurs in one of the following ways:
• The upload event is scheduled in the DCM Event
Manager.
• A request is made in the Communications Monitor
to retrieve data from devices.
• A device group is defined as Automatic Data
Collection and all devices in that group are
configured for online data collection.

Summary of DCM Data Flow Overview
• Three DCM functions initiate data downloads
and uploads: Initialize, Update, and Collect.
• A comm channel serves as a bridge between
devices and the Comm PC. The three types of
comm channels are: Ethernet, serial, and
modem.
• Sentinel allows you to manage three
connections: the Workforce Timekeeper
application connection, comm channels, and the
DCM Collection Agent.
