In Year 4, we have four maths groups two upper and two lower
Variety of activities and resources supporting the new 2014 National Curriculum:
·Number / calculation (eg, tables, place value, column addition and subtraction, short multiplication)
·Geometry and measures (eg, 2D shapes, area and perimeter, measuring, symmetry and co-ordinates)
·Data (eg, bar charts, pictograms, line graphs)
·Fractions and decimals (eg, tenths and hundreths, equivalent fractions, rounding decimals and money problems)

They will have a weekly test (different ability words) and their spelling homework will be
based on these. This activity may vary from week to week.
You may have noticed on your child's spelling list three words in green. These are from the
statutory list.

MUSIC
·In year 4 each child learns to play a brass instrument as part of the Government’s ‘Tuning Up’ scheme
·You will soon receive a letter about the instrument. Please return this as soon as possible!
Your child may wish to continue lessons and band in years 5 and 6.

done so.
As in year 3, we need the children to read as
much as possible. Their homework is to read
at least three times a week.
Times tables will be set by the children’s maths
teacher
Reminders
·Please supply your child with a named water bottle to bring to school every day
·Healthy snack please!
·Please check all items of clothing are named (including trainers and school shoes)
·Please sign their planners when they have read (and at the end of the week) –
it is their responsibility to get you to do this!
·PE Kit – shorts and t-shirts, tracksuits
·Hair needs to be tied up using bands / clips in school colours.
·All earrings and jewellery MUST be removed for PE and Games.
