MFL) (10.30 - 12.00) ·Lunch time (12:00 - 12:50) MATHS In Year 4, we have four maths groups two upper and two lower Variety of activities and resources supporting the new 2014 National Curriculum: ·Number / calculation (eg, tables, place value, column addition and subtraction, short multiplication) ·Geometry and measures (eg, 2D shapes, area and perimeter, measuring, symmetry and co-ordinates) ·Data (eg, bar charts, pictograms, line graphs) ·Fractions and decimals (eg, tenths and hundreths, equivalent fractions, rounding decimals and money problems) MATHS How can I help my child? ·Bonds and pairs – 10, 20 & 100 ·Times-tables! Learn them in and out of sequence, with speedy recall ·Mental maths ·Real life maths: money, change, measuring, weighing. Make it fun! ·Websites – Maths games Maths Booster sessions Maths interventions Mental maths and times-tables. ENGLISH A variety of activities following the new 2014 National Curriculum: Reading ·decoding of unfamiliar words ·retelling stories ·retrieving information ·making predictions ·recognise poetry We have a Guided Reading session every week to help improve your child's comprehension. How can I help my child? Humpty Dumpty Writing ENGLISH ·Spelling common homophones ·Improve handwriting ·Plan writing ·Writing in paragraphs ·Editing ·Evaluating ·Reading own writing aloud Spellings They will have a weekly test (different ability words) and their spelling homework will be based on these. This activity may vary from week to week. You may have noticed on your child's spelling list three words in green. These are from the statutory list. Please return this as soon as possible! Your child may wish to continue lessons and band in years 5 and 6. As in year 3, we need the children to read as much as possible. Their homework is to read at least three times a week. Times tables will be set by the children’s maths teacher Reminders ·Please supply your child with a named water bottle to bring to school every day ·Healthy snack please! ·Please check all items of clothing are named (including trainers and school shoes) ·Please sign their planners when they have read (and at the end of the week) – it is their responsibility to get you to do this! ·PE Kit – shorts and t-shirts, tracksuits ·Hair needs to be tied up using bands / clips in school colours. ·All earrings and jewellery MUST be removed for PE and Games.
