APP Update
• First moderation meeting taking place in
November and December 09
• Host schools contacted by one of the
consultants attending
• Focus on level 4 and level 6
Your child, your schools, our future:
White Paper – June 2009
Focus on schools
• The White Paper signals a significant shift in
accountability and improvement support to
schools.
• It will place improvement support resources into
schools’ hands so that they can tailor support to
their needs.
• It is important that schools continue to invest
time and resources into improving Teaching and
Learning – with no let-up on literacy and
numeracy where there will still be a strong focus
through the accountability system.

White Paper – June 2009
Building on NS best practice
• The DCSF will be focusing its
attention on ensuring that there are
accredited providers of improvement
support for schools to draw on from
2011.
• Schools should continue to build on
best practice established through the
National Strategies over the last 10
years, which has led to year on year
improvement over the last five years.
Advanced Skills Teachers (ASTs)
• There are currently two ASTs employed by the
Local Authority, Carol Bradbury whose area of
expertise is teaching and learning styles and
Dave Harrington whose area of expertise is the
use of ICT in mathematics. Their support is free
of charge and if you feel that your department
could benefit from their advice and input please
contact Karen Lawley
