FFA CAREER DEVELOPMENT
EVENT
Tool Identification CDE Rules and Guidelines
Senior Level – Team of 4 first year Ag Students/Senior FFA members
Junior Level – Team of 4 Junior FFA members
Official dress – required for competition
State Level Event only. There is no National Competition.
1. Each school will be allowed to enter one team for each FFA Chapter. Each team will be composed of four members.
2. All team members must be students enrolled in their first year of agricultural education. Each member will work
individually.
3. Official dress is required of all team members.
4. The event will consist of correctly identifying, capitalizing as necessary, and spelling fifty randomly selected tools from
this PowerPoint and on the Tool ID and Uses Word document. Each correct answer will score one point. Perfect score
will be fifty points. The three highest individual member scores on a team will be compiled to obtain a team score. The
high team score will be declared the winner.
5. Any answer, which is incorrectly spelled or incorrectly capitalized, will be ruled as an error and one point will be
deducted, as if the tool had not been correctly identified.
6. Each member will be allowed 30 seconds to identify, spell, and capitalize, if necessary, each tool.
7. Images of tools will be displayed using a PowerPoint presentation with images taken from the FFA website list. (Revised
August, 2001). The slides WILL NOT be numbered in the contest, so the student also must keep up with the order of the
slides.
8. The decision of the head judge will be considered final.
9. In the event of a tie, those teams tied will be given an additional 10 tools to identify. In the event that teams are still tied,
participants will be asked individually the proper use of each tool. This will continue until ties are broken.
10. A list of tools and their uses are listed on the FFA website.
11. Contestants must supply their own pencil.
12. 50 points will be deducted for each team member that is not in official dress.
