Challenges

• • • • Balancing the needs of one school against those of the federation.

A more ‘distant’ governing body.

Potential problems with a lack of shared vision if the federation is ‘imposed’ without the full backing of all stakeholders.

Parent feelings of loosing a Head ‘every school needs a face of the school-who is visible and can take the responsibility for the location.’ Bringing about cultural change.

Changing the perceptions regarding what infant and junior education means.

Feeling less a part of the schools or being busy in both schools and having insufficient time in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Coping with initial staff tensions.

Adapting to change and being flexible.

Leading schools with differing ethos and cultures.

Loosing touch with the children.

Meet those challenges by…

• Transparent Leadership -Open communication with staff is essential as there will be ‘lots of worries’.

• Consult widely and value others views.

• Be prepared to change – listen to staff in particular.

• Well-planned structure with clear roles and responsibilities.

• Effective communication to children and parents ,good organisation and careful ‘branding’.

• Strong sense of direction , with shared values and a clear vision.

• Shared commonality.

Meet those challenges by…

• Individual Schools keep their Identity.

• Focus on promoting children’s achievements.

• Collective accountability for pupil performance.

• Promoting a collaborative rather than competitive educational culture and sharing good practice and professional knowledge.

• Teamwork and the opportunities to develop teams, pooling expertise and enthusiasm.

• Look after your staff- without them an arrangement like this will not work.

• Make time for staff to come together – ‘chit-chat’ is important.

Into the future…

Open to every opportunity that together we can

•Raises achievement and standards across the key stages.

•Increases the happiness, wellbeing of the whole school community.
