SAI Platform is the global initiative helping food and
drink companies to achieve sustainable production and
sourcing of agricultural raw materials.
A definition of Sustainable Agriculture
"Sustainable agriculture is the efficient production of
safe, high quality agricultural products, in a way that
protects and improves the natural environment, the
social and economic conditions of farmers, their
employees and local communities, and safeguards the
health and welfare of all farmed species.”

• Created in 2002 by the food and drink industry to support
the development of sustainable agriculture worldwide.
• Works on a pre competitive basis, on technical issues.
• 55 members: 44 food and drink companies, 11 affiliate
members
• 5 Working Groups: Beef, Coffee, Fruit, Dairy, Arable and
Vegetable Crops
• 4 Committees: Biodiversity, FSA, Farmer and Supplier

Sustainability Performance Assessment (SPA)
SPA is set of guidelines designed to
• Provide guidance for a good tool to help farmers assess the
level of implementation of the Principles and Practices.
• Identify practical, quantifiable indicators of sustainability
performance.
• Assess the impact on the economic, social and environmental
pillars of their farm sustainability.
SPA’S GOAL IS:
For SAI Platform members to have access to impact calculation
tool(s) which are in accordance with SAI Platform pre-determined
specifications
