• Directive 2002/95/EC Reduction of certain
hazardous substances RoHS
• Restricting the use of hazardous substances in
electrical and electronic equipment in order to
contribute to the recovery and elimination of
equipment waste and the protection of human
health
• Directive 2002/96/EC WEEE
• To prevent the generation of electrical and
electronic waste and to promote reuse, recycling
and other forms of recovery in order to reduce the
quantity of such waste to be eliminated

• Spare parts for equipment put on the market
before 1st July 2006 excluded

Article 4 of the directive:
• Heavy metals: lead, mercury, cadmium and
hexavalent chromium
• Additives: polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) or
polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)
• Exemption from the directive in Annex
