Life before the war
• She was born on November 15 1900 in
Gentbrugge.
• She studied at the university of Ghent.
• She was awarded a master of arts in social and
political sciences when she went to New York
state university.
• She returned to Belgium in 1928.
• She then began to work at the national agency
for children.
• She became the head of that organization.
During the war
• In the summer of 1942, she was approached
by Belgium's main Jewish underground
organization.
• They asked her to help Jewish children that
had been separated from their parents.
• She of course agreed.
• Nevejean saved the lives of 4,000 children.
More during the war
• When the Jewish underground that financed her
operation were unable to give her all the funds
she needed, she went to banks and the London
based Belgian government.
• The gestapo attempted to stop her.
• They arrested some of the rescuers and rescuees.
• However, they were not successful when
nevejean, queen Elizabeth, and others took a
stand to stop them.
After the war
• Nevejean was honored inside as well as
outside of Belgium.
• She was designated righteous among the
nations in 1965.
• Her image was also placed on a stamp in
1996.
• She later died in the year 1987.
