Mission Daily life
First bells rang, then everyone went to church.
Then the neophytes went to classes, and then they ate
breakfast. Followed by a siesta. Then they went back to
work at last they went to sleep.
The natives made leather products, soap, candles, wine
and olive oil.
The natives harvested crops, fruits, and vegetables.
The Spanish soldiers protected the mission from Native
American attacks.
Spanish missionaries taught Native Americans religion.

The first chapel was made in 1802
The church was made of adobe bricks
The mission San Luis Rey de Francia had
six mission ranches
Mission changes
Friar O’Keefe repaired the church and
fixed the permanent living quarters. Over
the years repairs have been made to the
partial rebuilding of the quadrangle for a
Franciscan college.
During the 1950’s and 60’s the Friars
found the soldier’s barracks and the
lavanderia.
