– Repealed US immigration

was arrested for
treason
• Remained in prison for
one year
– Was granted freedom in

Reforms Begin in Texas
• 1834
• Reforms Santa Anna promised began
– English was official language for transactions
– Allowed immigration from the US
– Increased the number of Anglo representatives
– Religious tolerance was accepted
The Consultation of 1835
• Discussion between two different groups of
Anglo settlers
• Peace Party:
– Feared the consultation would cause trouble
– Felt the Mexican government was acting fair
• War Party:
– Disappointed in the Mexican government
– Favored immediate independence from Mexico
