What is “OVOP”
Basic Concept of OVOP
• “One Village, One Product” (OVOP) is a movement or governmental program
which encourage each local area, for instance ONE VILLAGE, to create ONE
PRODUCT.
• It is aimed at developing human resources as well as activating local communities
in regional areas.
Origin and Worldwide Spread
• A Japanese local government, Oita prefecture, started the first “OVOP” movement
about 30 years ago, followed by many local governments/organizations in Japan.
• The method of OVOP has been utilized as a tool of international cooperation for
regional development.
• Today, OVOP has been spread to many developed and developing countries,
including APEC economies.
