Class 3 Autumn Term 1 – 2011
PE Days- Tuesday and Thursday
Numeracy
Literacy
We will be describing familiar settings and
using lots of effective adjectives in our
writing.
We will also be looking at the features of
non-chronological reports.
We will work towards writing our own
report about different types of natural
disasters.
We will be learning about place value and
partitioning two and three digit numbers. We
will learn about hundreds, tens and units.
We will also be adding and subtracting 10
and 100 from a given number.
Sequencing numbers in steps of 2, 3, 4, 5
and 10 will also be covered this half term.
How you can help at home
ICT
•Practice 3 and 4 times tables
We will be using our personal folders to
create, save and open our word
processed work.
•Watch Newsround together and discuss up
to date issues such as weather and natural
disasters around the world.
We will learn how to research the Internet
and use the information we find to create
a newspaper report about a natural
disaster.
•Read with your child regularly and discuss
books they are reading. Ask children to
comment on structure – how it starts, how the
action builds and how it ends.
Art and Design
This half term we will be looking at how
weather has been represented in art. We
will be using a range of techniques, e.g.
collage, paint and oil pastels to create our
own weather pictures.
We will design and build our own weather
station so that daily readings can be
taken.
Spellings-Monday
•Encourage children to complete homework
activities as these are linked to class work.
Science
We will investigate different types of
rocks, their origins and the idea that there
is rock under all surfaces.
We will then look at volcanoes and how
they erupt.
We will make our volcanic eruption using
vinegar and bicarbonate soda.
Geography
We are going to be looking at different
natural disasters that happen on Earth.
Earthquakes, volcanoes, avalanches,
hurricanes, tsunamis, floods and droughts
will be the main ones that we will discuss
and any that are current in the news.
RE
Music
We will be developing our musical skills
through singings songs and following the
beat.
We will develop our knowledge of musical
notation e.g. key signature and phrases.
Numeracy- Wednesday
Topic- Friday
We will be thinking about how we look
after ourselves and what happens when
things go wrong.
We will be looking at how natural
disasters feature in the bible and the
effect they had.
Reading books can be changed on a Tuesday when they
have been read.
