Kontos Insecticide/Miticide • Mode of Action: – Lipid biosynthesis inhibitor – Active primarily by ingestion • Does have some contact activity – Primarily active on immature stages of insects and mites. • Reproduction of adult insects and mites may be reduced. – No known cross resistance Kontos Insecticide/Miticide • Unique Full Systemic Movement – Kontos is fully systemic, moving through phloem and xylem to all plant tissues including new shoot, leaf and root growth Kontos Insecticide/Miticide Safe on Many beneficials Coccinelids – harmless to slightly harmful Cecidomyiids – harmless Anthacorids, Geocorids, etc. – harmless Aphelinids, Aphidids, Trichogrammatids, etc. – harmless Spiders – harmless to slightly harmful Chrysopids – harmless Syrphids – harmless Phytoseiid mites – harmless to moderately harmful. Kontos Insecticide/Miticide • May be used on ornamentals, non-bearing fruit and nut trees and vegetable transplants grown in: – Greenhouses – Container and field nursery – Interiorscapes Kontos Insecticide/Miticide • Vegetable Transplants: Kontos Insecticide/Miticide • Application methhods: – Foliar spray • Including low volume applications – Soil Drench – Irrigation • Including drip, micro, overhead, ebb and flood – Aerial application Kontos Insecticide/Miticide • Key pests controlled: – Adelgids – Aphids – Leafhoppers – Mealybugs (Best performance when populations are low) – Psyllids – Spittlebugs – Spider Mites (effective prevention of population buildup) – Whiteflies (including “Q” biotype) Kontos Insecticide/Miticide • Other pest activity and upcoming label additions: – Thrips • Trials show good control of Thrips but needs to be part of a good rotational program. Kontos Insecticide/Miticide • Application Rates: – Aerial applications: 5 to 8 fl. oz / acre in a minimum of 5 GPA. – Drench applications: 1.7 fl oz for herbaceous crops. 3.4 fl. oz. for woody crops. • Drench rates vary depending on container size. Please consult the label. Kontos Insecticide/Miticide • Tank Mixing: – Kontos is physically and biologically compatible with most common pesticides and fertilizers. – In the absence of local knowledge of desired tank mix, please contact OHP or consult the label for instructions on conducting a compatibility test. – Tank mixes, including adjuvants, should also be tested for plant safety. Kontos Insecticide/Miticide • Restrictions: – Do not apply more than 25 fl. oz. per acre of nursery per season. – Do not apply more that 5 fl. oz. per acre per season to vegetables. – To reduce run off potential, avoid outdoor applications when rainfall is expected in 48 hours. Kontos Insecticide/Miticide • Application tips: – Apply early in the cropping cycle, prior to heavy infestations – Root system must be present for effective control as a drench. – Applications may benefit from the addition of a surfactant. Kontos™ Kontos Insecticide/Miticide • New systemic insecticide from the tetramic acid class of chemistry. • Can be applied as a foliar spray or drench. • Controls a wide range of sucking insects and mites. • Xylem and Phloem Systemic providing for top to bottom plant protection.
