P3 CURRICULUM

Objectives
•To enhance results of pupils in other subject areas
(perform well academically)
•To build pupils’ love for reading
•To improve pupils’ reading competency
•To build pupils’ comprehension skills
•Teachers will :
set up reading stations in their
classrooms (during Guided Reading).
keep running records.
build a profile of pupils as readers.
• The reading programme will be conducted
and assessed by our trained teachers.
• It will be conducted during 3 English periods
for 1.5 hrs.
Oral
• Reading Aloud (no change)
• Stimulus Based Conversation
- Given a stimulus and pupils need to express themselves
clearly & effectively during a conversation
-Stimulus is a springboard for conversation
- Possible examples can be from experiences the pupils
have encountered
Composition (Guided Writing)
•Given 3 pictures (not in sequence)
•Specific instructions to write a story
•Writing can be based on 1, 2 or all of the pictures
•Pupils will be given guiding questions and some
helping words to guide them.
Editing
• For Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar
Sentence Combining
• Combining 2 sentences to one with the use of
connectors (from STELLAR texts)
Comprehension
• 2 passages instead of 1- testing a variety of items such
as MCQ, Open-ended, sequencing etc…
What you can do to help your child…
Promote the love of books to your child
Take time out to read/listen
(storybooks/magazines/poems/newspaper)
with/to your child and discuss current issues
Visit the library regularly
Encourage your child to look up for words
that are unfamiliar to them
MATHEMATICS
What Parents Can Do to Help
• Relate Mathematics to real-life by engaging your child in
meaningful and fun activities
• Teach concepts using manipulatives and things around us
• Show interest in your child’s progress in Mathematics and
be involved as a parent
• Encourage your child to memorise multiplication tables
- P2 : 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x and 10x
- P3 : 6x, 7x, 8x and 9x
