CIMI即是『博物館資訊電子交換聯盟』
（Consortium for the Computer
Interchange of Museum Information）
的簡稱。

博物館的定義

起源：



定義：


起源於約公元前300年亞歷山大城的繆斯廟（Mouseion）
博物館的英文「Museum」，就是源於希臘語的繆斯廟
「Mouseion」
依國際博物館協會的定義：博物館乃一非營利之永久
性機構，在其所發展與服務的社會，對公眾開放，以
學習、教育、娛樂為目的，蒐藏、保存、研究、傳播
與展示人類及其環境的物質證據。
功能：典藏、研究、展示、教育四大項。

博物館的資訊類型

藏品資訊(Collection information)
 有關該藏品的描述資或文獻
 如：登錄資料、目錄、影像檔

博物館學資訊(museological information)
 和藏品有關的活動資訊
 如：保存、展覽、學術研究、教學、發展與交
流等資訊

業務資訊(Business information)
 和藏品管理相關的資訊
 入藏、合作、財務與人力資源…等

圖書館 vs.博物館之資訊組織

圖書館
 編目規則、機讀格式、分類法、標題表、索摘
 處理之資訊性質相似，較易標準化
 可分享編目資源

博物館
 典藏品具多樣性且彼此間異質性高
 典藏品多獨一無二、舉世無雙的原件資料，無
法編目資源分享
 透過Z39.50，以存取、選擇與檢索


緣由：




推廣資訊的利用價值
達到資訊傳遞、教育推廣之目的
1980年代，博物館之資訊專家學者體認到，
為使資訊有效提供使用者檢索利用，制定
相關標準化規範的重要性。
1990成立『博物館資訊電子交換聯盟』
(Consortium for the Computer
Interchange of Museum Information，簡
稱CIMI)

任務：
 推動資訊，有效於網路上流通與利用
 支援描述標本文物、影像資料格式之標準化制
定，使各資料間互相傳遞與共享
 協助尚未採用新科技之博物館得以進行相關之
自動化計畫及開發數位化資料庫
 建立各博物館間良好的溝通管道

使用SGML將全文資料、物件記錄與影像做
標誌
 制定處理博物館資訊的標準格式DTD
(Document-Type Definition)，稱為CIMIDTD

 描述項目以標示(tags)方式，將全文資料的內
容中標示出來
 也可用來標示物件記錄及人名記錄等欄位化資
料

為了發展CIMI-DTD，需發展a set of access
points
從博物館資訊中抽出與該物件有關之名稱、人名、
事件等主題，作成檢索點(Access Points)，稱
CIMI Access Points
是Z39.50中CIMI屬性集（CIMI Attribute Set）
的基礎
CIMI Attribute Set即是CIMI記錄中的描述項目

Tour for third-grade students

A handheld tour for the third grade rural
school district in upstate New York at the
Herbert F. Johnson Art Museum. CIMI
Handscape/Intel provided seed funding for
the design and evaluation of this program.

XML-SPECTRUM Schema





Beginning in 2003
The Museum Documentation Association (MDA), owners
and developers of the SPECTRUM data standard has
taken over responsibility for the CIMI XML Schema for
SPECTRUM
On behalf of the international museum community, CIMI
has been contributing to the development of a Document
Type Description (DTD) for mda’s(The Museum
Documentation Association, 簡稱MDA) international
museum standard for describing objects called
“SPECTRUM”; a well-known and widely-used standard
in the museum world.
